tfheen Mon, 27 Jun 2005 - pkg-config 0.18 released

I just released pkg-config 0.18 which fixes some annoying bugs in earlier versions. One is the support for PKG_CONFIG_LIBDIR which was erronously removed. Another change is the removal of some memory leaks. Those are just small bugs which are fixed though. There are a few real changes in there as well:

The last and biggest change is the handling of private libraries. Private libraries are any libraries your library or application uses, but which are not exposed in the API. They are needed for static linking, but otherwise should just be taken care of by inter-library dependencies. Examples of private dependencies are Cairo's use of libpng and a library needing libm. An example of a public dependency is GTK+ exposing the GLib api.

tfheen Sun, 26 Jun 2005 - Fortress for sale

While reading boingboing today, I came across a link to a fortress for sale. It's not very expensive, only 150k£, but really needs somebody to put some work into it. There are more pictures too.

tfheen Wed, 15 Jun 2005 - Beer and such

Got a lot of stuff done today.. Talked to the bank about a loan, at least a temporary one until we can get the apartment in Trondheim sold. Talked to the real estate sales guy too and arranged to have another stylist call us about the apartment. Talking to the lady who was there yesterday was horrible as our communication was more or less non-existent.

I was in Levanger with Steinar, Anders and Kjetil Jørgensen and had a fun time. We drank lots of strange beers, getting slightly drunk before taking the train back at approximately 22:16. Marius Kotsbak showed up after a few hours too. We had fun and drank more beer.

I am going to post some pictures of my advisor once I get home. I am convinced he is mad (or at least slightly off-balance).

tfheen Sat, 11 Jun 2005 - Finished. Done.

Yesterday, at 14:31, I handed in my thesis. That means I'm finished as a student, at least for this time. (Yes, I have to get the thesis reviewed and so on before I can say for sure that I am finished, but that's more of a formality than anything else.) It feels weird more than anything else. I wonder when it will sink in.

tfheen Tue, 07 Jun 2005 - How to break lines with the listings package in LaTeX

LaTeX is a really nice typesetting language and it has a nice tool called listings which handles program listings for you. By default, listings doesn't break lines. Why it doesn't do that is beyond me, but I'm sure the author has his reasons. It does however have support for breaking lines quite easily. The trick is using something along the lines of:

\lstset{
basicstyle=\small,
showstringspaces=false,
language={},
breaklines=true,
breakatwhitespace=true,
prebreak={\mbox{\hfill$\hookleftarrow$}}}

which renders into

A line of code with a break symbol at the end

Ok, the sky is definitively falling. Or Hell freezing over (which it definitively feels like, walking outside today).

tfheen Mon, 06 Jun 2005 - Invitation

Since I'm turning 25 this Wednesday, Karianne decided to throw me a party. Yay! Wednesdays are generally bad for parties, so it'll be Saturday June 11th. If you feel like dropping by, please do. Saturday at 18-ish. The address is Nonnegaten 2c in Trondheim. If you need instructions on how to get there, drop me a mail.

Cakes and drinks will be served, but feel free to bring your own too. Cakes might be nice to coordinate with Karianne.
